Private lessons at the Conservatory consist of 45-minute weekly lessons, during which the student works on an individual basis with his or her instructor. Private lessons are the foundation of all teaching at the El Paso Conservatory, and the weekly one-on-one instruction with EPCoM faculty is the basis of musical growth.

Collegiate Music Theory Preparation Course (2-weeks per session)

The focus of this course is to prepare high school seniors for university-level music theory courses. Most universities have a music theory placement exam which can result in a student having to take remedial classes if not passed. Our course will prepare the students with the knowledge required to pass these exams and to possibly place into a higher level course at the university level. The course will introduce and reinforce knowledge in intervals, chords, major and minor scales, time signatures, and roman numeral functional analysis. It is strongly recommended for seniors looking to pursue a music degree.  

 

For ages 15+

Music of the Renaissance (2-weeks per session)

This course explores the development of Western European music from the late Middle Ages through the Renaissance. You will experience the music that led to the Classical, Romantic, and Modern eras - music that is, in its own right, sophisticated, diverse, entertaining, solemn, and emotionally rich. Learn about the significant composers of the period as well as the different works and forms one could have heard in the 1500’s.

 

For Ages 16+

History of Film Music (2-weeks per session)

From silent to soundtrack, follow the story of how music became an integral and significant part of our film experience. This course will cover the different ages of Hollywood and will briefly discuss some of the methods used in composing a film score.

Intro to Music Business (1-day per session)

This seminar is aimed at musicians looking to generate income from their creative and performance practices. This course will cover the latest about the rapidly changing music industry, from recording, publishing, licensing, copyright, and royalty collection. Learn how to create revenue streams from your music!

Music Appreciation/History Class (1-week)

This 5-day music appreciation course will act as an introduction to the 6 periods of music history:  Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century. Using Nearpod, a software that consists of keynote presentations, virtual reality photographs, and draw it/share it features, the instructor will demonstrate how western music evolved throughout the ages to become the entertainment monopoly it is today

 

For Ages 16+

Rhythm Theory (1-week)

Learn the fundamental importance of rhythms and timing for all musicians.  Students will increase understanding, counting skills, accuracy, and feeling rhythmic patterns in a musical way. This class will benefit students 6th Grade Beginners to Advanced Musicians no matter what instrument you play or vocalist.

 

For Ages 12+

Composition for Percussion and Drums (1-week)

This will be an interesting and informative workshop to those interested in Writing and Notation for Percussion and Drums. Composers and Arrangers are always curious about what to do and the best way to do it. The class will give you an insight from a Percussionists/Drummers point of view (Ricky Malichi).  There will be various instruments on hand to give participants an opportunity to hear various instruments, their textures, and different voices of the Drum Family. *Background with composition for this class

Instrument Camps 

The classes are in a group environment... one hour per instrument with professional musicians as faculty. Each age group receives an hour each of the two instrument classes. The benefit of these weekly camps is to introduce students to new musical instruments.

Early Childhood Music

The Early Childhood Music is a program designed for ages 2-4 and 4-6. Its main purpose is to introduce toddlers to the basic music concepts- such as: rhythm, beat, pitch, dynamics, and notation- while supporting social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. This program is primarily based on two methods: Orff and Dalcroze.

Week 1: June 5th- Introduction to Music - beat, rhythm, dynamics, pitch.

Week 2: June 12th- Its Rhythm Time! - note values, Reading different rhythms while playing instruments/ Singing.

Week 3: June 19th- Hello Mr. Bach! - Introduction to the life of famous Baroque Composer Johann Sebastian Bach. Activities will focus on introducing the main works of this famous composer while singing, playing and having fun!

Week 4: June 26th- Hello Mozart! - Introduction to the life and work of famous Classical composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Activities will focus on introducing the main works of this famous composer while singing, playing and having fun!

Week 5: July 10th- Hello Mr. Beethoven! - Introduction to the life and work of famous Classical/Romantic composer Ludwig Van Beethoven. Activities will focus on introducing the main works of this famous composer while singing, playing and having fun!

Week 6: July 17th- The Orchestra - The various families of Musical Instruments. Students will learn about the orchestra, as well as most famous orchestral pieces while dancing, singing, and playing!

Week 7: July 24th- The Nutcracker - Tchaikovsky: a look at his life and one of his most loved masterpiece: The Nutcracker.

Week 8: July 31st- I love Music - The last class of the summer will cover all aspects of music (beat, rhythm, staff, and notation). Come to have a class full of games, fun, and music!!

 

Tuition: $80 (per 4 weeks minimum) for every extra week it’s $20

Voice Performance (8-weeks)

This class is designed to improve each student's singing voice and develop the ability to sing successfully in front of others. During their course of study, they will be taught the fundamentals of healthy vocal production which includes the following:  1) proper posture and breathing to sing, 2) tone production, 3) diction, 4) expression, and 5) gaining confidence. Individual vocal problems will be assessed and exercises will be given to help strengthen and improve the voice. Students will be singing together and also individually for class in a supportive environment.

 

For Ages 12+

Fridays 6:00pm- 7:30pm

Dates: June 7th - July 27th (8 weeks)

Intro to Percussion (1-week)

This class will introduce students to the world of drums and percussion instruments in an interesting, educational, and fun way.  Students will have the opportunity to learn and play rhythm patterns also, understand written notation. During the week you will have instructions on percussion instruments ranging from hand drums to drumset and more!  The last day we will present what we have accomplished and perform an original composition created by Instructor (Ricky Malichi) and Students.


 

For Ages 6-11

All-State String Camp (Violin, Viola, and Cello) (1-week)

The El Paso Conservatory of Music’s TMEA All-State String Camp is designed to provide small class instruction of the 2019-2020 TMEA all state audition repertoire in a 5 day course.  The course will assist students in preparing for their fall auditions ahead of time, greatly improving their ability to deliver a mature and accurate audition.

Drum Set High School All-Region/ All-State Jazz (1-week)

During this week students will be working on (3) Drum Set Etudes in preparation for auditions for the local area and the opportunity to represent themselves, respected Schools, Districts, and the  El Paso on a state level. This workshop is going to give the students the skills to read and perform the etudes with confidence, stylistically correct, and in a musical way.

Class will focus on audition music and tools and techniques needed for a successful audition.
